Activities for MACS children & teenagers

Sailing adventure week

Each year we arrange a week long sailing adventure trip for MACS children and young people between the ages of 12 and 20. Through sailing, the young people learn teamwork, independence, communication, maths and nautical terms. They learn how to cook in a galley that’s sitting at a 50 degree angle! If they can do it there, they can do it at home.

'The difference in my child is astonishing; he went away as a timid boy scared to talk to anyone because of his eyesight and came back as a bubbly, outgoing person!'

This year, our voyage sets sail from Ipswich to Gosport/Southampton between 24 to 30 August 2017. The cost for the event is £50 per young person, which includes all food, accommodation and safety instruction for the week.

As someone who has grown up with visual impairment, I know just how valuable this experience is. These voyages changed me completely, and sailing around Ireland in 2007 with a group of 16 other young people was a turning point in my life; this is what I hope the sailing voyages bring to MACS.

Activity weekend / week trip

For those of you who prefer to stay on dry land we also arrange an annual adventure trip.

If you are aged between 10 to 18 years old join us for 5 days of adventure, challenges and no parents at the Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes! You'll be able to get involved in lots of new and exciting activities and meet other children and young people with MACS conditions, plus their siblings and friends.

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to canoe across a lake, explore underground caves and tunnels, traverse across zip wires and climb, then abseil down an 8-metre wall?  If so, this is the week for you!

I found out that I like heights and speed and I am not going to worry about something being too fast.

This 5-night break takes place from 30 July to 4 August 2017.

Our activity weekend for children aged 5 to 10 years, plus one parent or carer will take place from the 4th to 6th August 2017.

I was brave. I enjoyed everything. I am not going to be afraid to try new things. I love my helpers.

The cost for both events is £50 per young person (parent goes free on under 10s trip), which includes all food, accommodation and safety instruction for the week along with fully-trained 1-to-1 carers for those young people who need it.

Your children will have fun, learn how to overcome their fears and face new challenges head on; improve their communication skills and make new friends; and come away with a better understanding of the needs of others.
