Supporting children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes

Are you a budding Ben Ainslie or Ellen MacArthur?

If you are aged between 12 and 20 years old, you could have a chance of joining our week long sailing voyage taking place during summer 2017.

This year's voyage is open to 11 young people (including buddies) who would like to experience the excitement of learning how to sail on the open seas!

You will be fully functioning crew members and will be expected to participate in all aspects of on-board life - from steering the boat, plotting points on charts and calculating distances to filling in the ships log and communicating with the Coast Guard. You will also have to fend for yourselves by doing your share of the cooking, cleaning and night watch duty.

We won't lie...it won't be the easiest week of your life, but it may well be the most fun and rewarding!

Robbie - MACS Youth Events Co-ordinatorMACS trustee Robbie Crow, says:

"As someone who has grown up with visual impairment, I know just how valuable this experience is. These voyages changed me completely, and sailing around Ireland in 2007 with a group of 16 other young people was a turning point in my life; this is what I hope the sailing voyages bring to MACS."

This year, our voyage sets sail from Ipswich to Gosport/Southampton between 24 to 30 August 2017. The cost for the event is £50 per young person, which includes all food, accommodation and safety instruction for the week.

Get adventurous on a MACS weekend

Ben46.jpgIf you are aged between 10 to 18 years old join us for 5 days of adventure, challenges and no parents at the Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes! You'll be able to get involved in lots of new and exciting activities and meet other children and young people with MACS conditions, plus their siblings and friends.

Have you ever wondered what it might be like to canoe across a lake, explore underground caves and tunnels, traverse across zip wires and climb, then abseil down an 8-metre wall?  If so, this is the week for you!

This 5-night break takes place from 30 July to 4 August 2017.

Our third activity weekend for children aged 5 to 10 years, plus one parent or carer is also planned for 4 to 6 August 2017.

Here's some words from children and young people who have already experienced MACS Adventure weekends...

"I found out that I like heights and speed and I am not going to worry about something being too fast."

"I was brave. I enjoyed everything. I am not going to be afraid to try new things. I love my helpers."

The cost for both events is £50 per young person (parent goes free on under 10s trip), which includes all food, accommodation and safety instruction for the week along with fully-trained 1-to-1 carers for those young people who need it.

Your children will have fun, learn how to overcome their fears and face new challenges head on; improve their communication skills and make new friends; and come away with a better understanding of the needs of others.
