We're excited to let you know that Sean is all up and running and ready to assist with your tech queries and training. You can find out more about Sean on our website or contact him at sean@macs.org.uk
Sean has a mass of knowledge around access technology, from phones to laptops, screen readers to Braille. While his expertise is best suited to those using Braille or screen readers he's always happy to help with any other query. Sean will be happy to provide one-to-one chats, training sessions, resources and home visits where applicable.
We have a message here from Sean to help you get a better feel for his skills and background in tech!
Hi, I'm Sean your MACS tech volunteer.
Over the coming months i'll be producing various audio and written guides on how to utilise tech, quick tips on everything from Voiceover to JAWS versus NVDA and whatever you'd like covered in between.
For now, have you ever heard of Braille Screen Input? BSI is a fantastic tool for anyone who already knows Braille. Used on smartphones or Braillenotes it's a fantastic way of speeding up writing, whether you are comfortable using the touch screen or not.
The basic premis is you lace all six fingers on the screen as if Brailling, then using that placement tap the screen in the shape of the letters you are brailling. An audio demo will make this much clearer! If you're interested in finding out more, then drop me an email and keep an ear out for some podcasts coming very soon.
The other thing I love is gaming. Through my background in teaching, and my own experience as a visually impaired adult I'm generally more comfortable with lower vision games and audio games for all abilities. I'd be keen to get a gaming club going so do let me know if this would interest you or your child. That said, I'm more than happy to advise on any games or products for those with a higher vision level too.
Finally for now since my teens I've been a programmer. Using screen readers I've developed my skills and have loved teaching others. If you've ever felt left out by things like Minecraft and wondered how someone using a screen reader or Braille can program a game, then drop me a message.
I'm always available at:
