Helping Hand for MACS members
Making life easier for a visually impaired person can be costly. Our Helping Hand service can assist members with these costs and make a positive difference to the lives of the adults and children we support.
With our help, people with MACS conditions have access to items and activities which create opportunities for independence, help them cope with day to day living and enable them to get involved in a range of fun activities!
The Helping Hand scheme is open to members with a MACS condition. It can help with funding:
- The provision of sensory-based equipment and
- Access to activities that promote self-esteem and confidence, where a need is proven / known to be
- Access to equipment or software that enables blind and partially sighted Members to participate in a sighted world, or to develop or enable independent living
- Support to enable Members in financial hardship to access MACS services, including activity programmes and / or respite breaks.
95% of MACS Helping Hand recipients said it enabled them or their child to do something they wouldn’t otherwise have the chance to do.
Recent Helping Hand Grants have helped to purchase Braillers, talking microwaves, specialist mobile phones, music therapy sessions and bike adaptations.
I was able to be part of the GB paraclimbing team, competing in domestic competitions and coming 4th in the country in the women's VI category
We had a grant for an Apex Braillenote, which we would not have been able to afford otherwise. It is my daughter's most treasured possession and a lifeline for her
