Working with a MACS condition
Having a MACS condition doesn’t limit your career options. While some jobs may be challenging due to additional needs, many roles are fully accessible with the right support. Here is just a snippet of the Information that can be found in our leaflets below.
Types of Jobs
MACS adults are thriving in diverse fields, including teaching, government, the arts, law, veterinary care, media, local government, entrepreneurship, and more. Their journeys highlight the many possibilities ahead!
Getting a Job
Job hunting can be tough, especially with a visual impairment, but perseverance is key. Building strong IT skills, particularly with Windows and laptops, is essential. Consider training opportunities through local colleges or sensory services to get job-ready.
Supportive Software
Assistive technologies like ZoomText and JAWS can help with reading, managing emails, and internet browsing. Many tools are available to support accessibility needs.
Member Advice
One MACS member shares: "Self-employment has allowed me to work in a way that suits my needs. Consider joining online communities or listening to podcasts on successful self-employment stories."
Support Available
The Access to Work scheme offers support for those with visual impairments, including specialist equipment, travel funding, and support workers. While the process can be lengthy, it’s a valuable resource for making work more accessible.
