The sextet's band member Mike Morey with his neighbour Ben, who inspired the band to organise the concert
Jazz in the Afternoon
Senior Street Sextet, with special guest artist, Chris Biscoe, is playing an afternoon of Jazz, Blues and Latin Music at The Home Guard Club, Sheen, SW14 8LA from 3pm on Sunday 21st July, to raise money for MACS in its 25th anniversary year. The sextet's band member, Mike Morey, was inspired to organise the concert having witnessed the wonderful support MACS has given to his neighbour Ben:
"My neighbour Ben is 12 and I’ve known him all his life. He has a rare genetic defect called Anophthalmia, meaning that his eyes have not developed and he cannot see. What’s more, he has no optic nerves and will never experience vision.
The everyday challenges that Ben faces will be unimaginable to most of us, he is unable to see or imagine all the shapes, colours, shades, movements, expressions, and everything else we can see and that we take for granted.
Despite his condition, Ben is a happy, adventurous, lad with a great sense of humour. With the help of his family and support from MACS he has experienced the thrills of horse riding, swimming in the sea, bike riding and hurtling down a zip wire.”
2019 marks the 25th anniversary of MACS and the concert is organised in celebration of this incredible occasion.
The fundraisers and the band line-up are: Mike Morey - alto/soprano saxes and flute, Rachel Arthur and Chris Conway-Hughes - tenor saxes, Peter Garner – keyboard, Jules Hewett – bass and Keith Lawrence – drums.
The band looks forward to the gig and we are very honoured and grateful to have the highly respected sax player, Chris Biscoe, as our guest artist to join us to support the event.
